Former World Boxing Champion, Azumah Nelson is being considered for the appointment as Ghana's Boxing Ambassador, according to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga.
He disclosed this in a meeting when the Azumah Nelson, paid a courtesy on the Minister at the Ministry, Accra.
Azumah Nelson will among other things be tasked to lead a stakeholder campaign and fund-raising to develop Ghana's boxing and also come up with strategies to expand boxing infrastructure across the country as well as develop a work manual for boxing coaching.
Azumah Nelson expressed worry about the state of ӻpatriotism among the youth, especially the Sportsmen. He bemoaned the level of disrespect which is retarding the development of youth and sports in general.
The Minister, assured him of his commitment to put in place innovative and strategic measures to grow the youth and sports sector, especially boxing where his help will be most needed.
He reiterated his intention to redevelop the Azumah Nelson's Sports Complex in to an ultra-modern youth and sports centre to house a boxing gym.
Also present at the meeting was the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports and the Deputy National Coordinator of the National Youth Authority, Peter Boamah Otokunor.
