Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin has turned the heat on some ministers who he accused of absenting themselves in parliament during the 2010 Budget debate.
According to him, the absence of the ministers to explain the policy decisions in their respective portfolios must be a source of worry for government.
"I have expressed concern about it. We haven’t seen for example the ministry of Information at all in the House during the budget debate. We haven’t seen the Ministry of Trade and Industry at all, we haven’t seen the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, and we haven’t seen the Ministry of Energy. They haven’t come around to participate in budget debate at all,” he told Joy News’ Sammy Darko after the budget was grudgingly approved on Wednesday.
“A number of issues have been raised on their sectors which the MPs had to respond to,” he added.
Bagbin however paid glowing tribute to Deputy Finance Minister Seth Terkper who he said was present throughout the debate to explain issues on the floor of the house.
He intends to commend him on the floor of parliament for his contribution.
“When there are financial and economic matters he (Terkper) is able to respond, but details of sectors is not for him. Is for the various sectors and we never saw them participating. It is sad.
The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Works and Housing, they were always available. We never saw Foreign Affairs… it is not fair,” he lamented.
