Managers of the only licensed credit reference bureau, XDS Data say cooperation from the banks has improved greatly after initial difficulties.
The bureau keeps information on the credit histories of bank customers.
Majority of the banks in the past had not been very forthcoming with the necessary data on customers to enrich the database.
XDS Chief Executive, George Ahiafor however told Joy Business the banks are now beginning to show a strong commitment after realizing the advantages of the system.
He said apart from some two banks, all the banks in the country had signed up to the system.
He said the only little challenge is meeting the requirement to constantly update the data on a monthly basis.
Joy Business has learnt of moves to license a second credit reference bureau.
But Mr. Ahiafor said this may be counterproductive.
He said the market was not that large to warrant two credit bureaus.
Mr. Ahiafor said if care was not taken, the business could be derailed.
