Mr Anthony E. Amoah, Western Regional Minister, has noted that the success of any corporate entity depended on patronage, commitment and seeking the interest of shareholders. The Regional Minister, who said these in an address read on his behalf at the opening of the Tarkwa branch of Stanbic Bank on Thursday, charged banks to respect the dignity of customers. He urged workers of banks to co-exist with people in their catchment areas and to make them take part in the planning for the development of their communities. Mrs Gifty Kusi, Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency, commended Stanbic Bank for its decision to open 16 branches through out the country this year. She appealed to the bank to use the internet and adopt modern banking strategies to enable it get more customers. Mrs Kusi said the bank must complement the efforts of the Bank of Ghana to encourage the people to save with the bank instead of keeping their monies at home and at market places. Mr Emmanuel Asiedu-Mantey, Board Chairman of Stanbic bank, said “banking is a partnership and our policies are constantly under review to make it easier and user friendly for our customers. He said despite the existence of many banks, savings and loans companies, credit unions, susu companies and mutual funds a lot of moneys were outside the formal sector. Ms Joyce Aryee, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, said the opening of 11 banks in the Tarkwa area alone was encouraging and that mining attracted other economic activities. She advised the people to do business with the banks in the area to enable them benefit from their operations. Ms Aryee stressed the use of cheques and the promotion of modern financial instruments and less cash transactions. Mr George M. Duker, Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, said the assembly would continue to support the growth of businesses in the area. He appealed to the banks and other financial institutions to employ qualified persons from the area to help reduce the unemployment rate.
