Francis Amponsah, a barber who stole a motorcycle belonging to the Kade Government Hospital, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit court.
He pleaded guilty.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina told the court that Amponsah, a resident of Teshie in Accra, stole the bike from the premises of the District Health Administration at Kade on March 14.
He said the complainant parked the motorcycle valued at 2,500 Ghana cedis and left for the week-end.
When het went for the bike on Monday, it was nowhere to be found and a report was made to the police.
A month later, the complainant’s senior officers had information that the bike had been conveyed on a bus to Accra and that one Aboagye of Adankrono was connected with the theft.
Aboagye on being arrested mentioned Amponsah as having sent the bike to him for safe keeping but collected it three days later to be conveyed to Accra.
Amponsah was arrested in his hideout in Accra and brought to Kade Police station.
