There are reports of full blown fighting in the Bawku municipality in the Upper East Region, Tuesday, with two houses said to have been razed down by arsonists.James Dorkpetor, Bawku Municipal Information Officer who confirmed the fighting on Tuesday said the affected houses are located just behind the Bawku Police Station.He could see thick smoke rising into the sky, with piercing reports of sporadic gunshots. He feared the situation might get out of hand.Mr. Dorkpetor could not immediately confirm casualties but said he could hear wailings from the affected houses.Mr. Dorkpetor has called for security reinforcement to bring the situation under control. He told Citi News no arrests have been made.Five people have been reported dead in the renewed clashes that broke on Sunday, but military and police presence were said to calm tempers.Tuesday’s violence will be worrying news for President John Evans Atta Mills who is said to have unveiled a comprehensive peace plan for the area, and has dispatched his vice, John Mahama, to the conflict area to broker peace between rival Mamprusi and Kusasis.Story by Nathan Gadugah
