A New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency election which was due to take place in Bawku against a High Court injunction came to a standstill on Saturday.
Regional executives who were to coordinate the exercise failed to show up even though they had expressed willingness to disobey the court order.
A High Court in Bolgatanga placed an injunction on the elections following complaints by two aggrieved supporters of the party.
Timothy Youngs Anaba and Robert Baba Azumah dragged the constituency executives to court for trying to organise elections at less than two-thirds of the polling stations – as mandated by the party’s constitution.
It is not clear whether the regional executives changed their minds to comply with the court’s directive.
Current executives of the party in the constituency neglect 50 polling stations located in Kusasi areas, Joy News’ Upper East Regional correspondent, Joseph Osei, reported.
This is because the polling stations are among stations where the NPP recorded poor results at during the 2008 elections.
