The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has left the country for New York in the United States of America.
Dr Bawumia left Accra on Saturday to represent Ghana at the UN Security Council Meeting.
Ahead of meetings with senior officials of the United Nations, Dr Bawumia will deliver, on behalf of President Akufo-Addo, a statement during the Open Debate of the UN Security Council.
The Vice President is also expected to hold discussions in Washington DC with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Her Excellency Ms Molly Phee on strengthening the cooperation between the two countries on issues of mutual interest.
The Vice President will return to Accra on Friday, January 28, 2022.
Earlier this year, Ghana joined four other countries to commence a two-year term on the UN Security Council.
The other countries are; the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Gabon and Albania.
The countries were elected unopposed by UN members in June and will each serve until the end of 2023.
They are expected to address issues such as terrorism, child soldier recruitment and conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Libya and other parts of the world.
