The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has commissioned the newly constructed Sefwi Akontombra District Hospital in the Western North Region to improve access to quality healthcare in the area.
The new health facility which started in 2018 has an outpatient department, a theatre, modern hospital beds, a children's ward, male and female wards, a psychiatric unit, public health, an x-ray, dispensary, and consulting rooms, as well as other administrative units.
The ceremony brought together public office holders including the Health Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu; the Director General of Ghana Health Services, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye; Nana Ayew Afriyie, Chairperson of the parliamentary select committee on health and the leaders of the Sefwi Wiawso traditional council, health practitioners and residents of Sefwi Akontombra.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President said the government is committed to improving access to healthcare in all parts of the country hence the introduction of the 300 ambulances to every constituency, drone medical delivery, and other essential initiative into the health services.
He also noted that government’s ambitious Agenda 111 is aimed at providing healthcare to the doorsteps of citizens of this country and the project is unprecedented in the history of Ghana.
According to him, construction is still including Sefwi Bodi, Suaman Dadieso, and Bia East all in the Western North Region.
He further assured the government has estimated to complete between 14 and 45 Agenda 111 projects in 2023 and the remaining for 2024.
On his part, the Health Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu indicated that the commissioning of Sefwi Akontombra District Hospital demonstrates that President Akufo-Addo seeks to form universal health coverage in the country, thus, people will easily get access to healthcare in any place they find themselves.
The Minister said the Akontombra District Hospital is among the other six district hospitals the government has completed and they are ready for commissioning in a very limited space of time to serve the community established to provide health delivery.

The Member of Parliament for Sefwi Akontombra, Alex Djornuboah Tetteh commended the government for the enviable and unprecedented development in the area since the NPP won power in 2016.
The MP however, appealed to the workers of the facility to work diligently so that residents in the area will benefit from the hospital and exhibit the best maintenance culture to keep the hospital long-lasting.
Also, the Chief of Sefwi Akontombra, Nana Kwabena Ebi II commended President Akufo-Addo and his vice for putting up such a well-equipped hospital in his community.
He said the edifice in his community is a sign of the great love and commitment the NPP has for the Sefwi Akontombra district.
