Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has taken issue with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s narrative about his concession in the December elections.
Dr. Bawumia had earlier asserted that he conceded defeat to prevent heightened tensions in the country, despite opposition from his campaign team.
However, Dr Omane Boamah has refuted this claim, suggesting that the concession could have come much earlier.
In a Facebook post on Friday, December 27, Dr. Omane Boamah provided a detailed critique of Dr. Bawumia’s timeline.
He noted that by election night, the NDC had collated over 37,000 polling station results, which showed Dr Bawumia trailing at 41.21%.
According to him, the data available to both parties made the outcome clear, and there was no justification for the delay in conceding.
"Why will he not concede the following day?" he questioned, emphasising that a timely concession could have been made.
Dr Omane Boamah further attributed part of the delay to what he described as inefficiencies within the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) collation system.
He argued that if the NPP's system had been as effective as the NDC’s, Dr. Bawumia could have conceded on election night.
"Dr Mahamudu Bawumia actually delayed!” he stated unequivocally, adding that the concession could have been expedited under better circumstances.
