NDC Propaganda Secretary, Richard Quashigah, says the governing party is undaunted by the acumen of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as an economist of international repute.
Shortly after Dr. Bawumia was confirmed as the running-mate to NPP flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the 2012 general elections, party Chairman, Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey said the former governor of the Bank of Ghana was the ideal choice because of his background as a renowned economist.
He said Dr Bawumia's experience would enable an Akufo-Addo government better manage the national economy.
But Mr Quashigah told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh that the argument that Dr Bawumia is capable of applying his experience as an economist to transform the country’s economy does not wash.
“I don’t think that Dr Bawumia is any better economist than a lot of economic gurus that we have in the NDC and so I really do not see the strength of that argument.”
Although former Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama is cautioning the NDC not to underestimate Dr. Bawumia, the NDC Propaganda Secretary insists Dr Bawumia is “not a threat to the NDC at all”.
He mentioned the construction of numerous road networks, building of schools and “unprecedented” stabilization of inflation as some achievements that will drown Dr Bawumia's credentials as an economist.
Ghana has become one of the fastest growing economies in the world, and Ghanaians are happy about the performance of the NDC, he maintained.
“The international community has attested that Ghana is doing very well... And clearly, it is said that a prophet is not honoured in his home and therefore if you get people in the NPP trying to create the impression that the economy is not doing well, that is natural, that is expected because they are hungry for power.”
