The flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasised his commitment to running a campaign centered on addressing the social and economic challenges faced by Ghanaians.
During a visit to the Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV's palace on Sunday, May 19, Dr Bawumia emphasised that while the National Democratic Congress' John Dramani Mahama has already served as President, he has not yet had the chance to do so. Therefore, he urged Mr Mahama to exercise restraint and allow him to take his turn.
He assured the chief that he would refrain from engaging in a campaign of insults, opting instead for a decent and respectful approach.
Dr Bawumia emphasised that his message resonates with the Ghanaian people and that he has no intention of altering his campaigning style.
He reiterated his determination to focus on delivering solutions to the pressing issues affecting the populace, rather than resorting to divisive tactics.
Dr Bawumia insisted that he is committed to fostering a positive political environment and engaging in constructive dialogue with voters as the election approaches.
“I am very much guided by your advice and that advice is one that I have been implementing and sharing my ideas with the people of Ghana with no insult to anybody. Just my ideas and this is how I have been campaigning throughout."
"So that is the message we will be going around with. To tell Ghanaians what I am going to do as president and what we have done as a government to ask for the people’s support to go to the next level.”
Dr Bawumia further urged Wa Naa and his constituents to cast their votes in his favor during the upcoming December 7 general elections, positioning himself as the preferred choice over his main rival, John Dramani Mahama.
“Myself and my main opponent [John Dramani Mahama] are all your children. We are both from the North and he has been president before but I haven’t been president before, so I have told him [John Dramani Mahama] that he is my senior brother, and he should have patience for me so I can also become president of this country.
“I will be able to be president for eight years, and he can only be president for four years, so if the presidency is coming home, then we should have it for eight years rather than four years.”
