The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has criticised Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign, comparing it to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s approach during the recent American elections.
Mr Gyamfi made these remarks on JoyFM’s Newsfile on Saturday, analysing the NPP and NDC’s perspectives following Donald Trump’s decisive victory in the U.S. elections.
“Bawumia is running a campaign very similar to that of Kamala Harris because they are all attempting to excoriate themselves from liability and responsibility,” he asserted, drawing a parallel between Harris's and Bawumia’s campaign strategies.
According to the outspoken politician, both leaders are striving to dissociate themselves from their administrations' shortcomings, an attempt he described as “in futility.”
Mr Gyamfi argued that, much like the American electorates, Ghanaians are astute and unlikely to be swayed by what he called “empty rhetoric” from the Vice President.
He warned that Mr Bawumia’s attempts to portray himself as separate from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) record would not succeed.
“The people of this country are discerning just like the people of America, so just like the people of America did not buy that, I know that the people of Ghana will not buy that campaign of Bawumia because he's one and the same as Akufo-Addo,” he said.
He further contended that Dr Bawumia could not effectively distance himself from the NPP’s policies and governance under President Akufo-Addo, especially when the party is still in power.
“A vote for Bawumia is nothing but a vote for Akufo-Addo,” he insisted, emphasising that the Vice President’s promises of change ring hollow when he remains tied to the ruling party’s economic policies.
Nonetheless, the NDC Communications Officer acknowledged that former President Trump’s victory would not determine which party wins in the December polls.
With the upcoming elections drawing closer, all 13 contenders have intensified their campaign to spread their message to secure a resounding victory.
