There are many shades of kisses. And you may want to place emphasis on one or two depending on which one you most appreciate. I’m sure you’re actually thinking of the last one you experienced some weeks ago. Don’t bother to share with me. The sentences are perhaps meant to lead you to reminisce those fantastic times. But honestly what I want us to talk about today is not about kisses….
For many young lovers, a kiss is always an opportunity they won't pass off. But if we young lovers can be excited by an opportunity to kiss then we should be excited by the kiss of life - thoses opportunities that come in different shades.
Many people say opportunity comes but once. But I say opportunities come over and again depending on which lens or eyes you’re using to gauge them or grab them. We’ve all had bad breaks in life. True.
But it takes guts to want to open one’s eyes again to see the next opportunity that lies ahead of him or her. When was the last time you screamed with such joy because something pleasant you never thought possible had found its’ way at your door step? In as much as there may be only few chances around, one can learn to maximize the small openings along the way of life in order not to lose out. These ones, I call them kisses of life.
Oforiwaa was such an intelligent student. She has a loving parent who would give her what’s best for her. She completed the senior High School with her peers who came from very rich homes. There was no money for her to continue to the University. One evening after dinner, she had a call from her friend that there was an essay competition for persons between the ages of 16 and 18. Since she fell in that age range, she took part and surprise, she won!
She had some amounts of money and plus the savings of her parents, she’s good to go.
The story didn’t end there. She called me last week that one of the companies that sponsored the essay competition wants her to do an internship with them. Truth is, her senior high school results are in and she did excellent. She’s gained admission at the University of Ghana, Legon. She’s been doing her internship on weekends and days she has no lectures with the reputable company.
She would have missed out if she had failed to take advantage of that competition that brought her money to start her tertiary education.
What am I saying? Sometimes opportunities are like gold that come with the dirty ore. Until one has foresight, it becomes difficult to grab and take advantage of them.
After losing out on three interviews to get a job with very reputable organizations, Ama begun braiding her friend’s hair for fun….and at least to occupy that free time she had.
Well, not all days are equal. The Managing Director of one of the corporations she had dreamt of working with passed by with one of her friends to fix the same hair style she did for her friend for her. Few weeks later, she had her job. Call it coincidence but Ama maximized her innate potential to get her dream job.
Whatever be the case, there can always be a way to help you move to the next stage of life only if you’ll open your eyes. And as you take a hold of all the great breaks that come your way, never forget to say thank you to all who matter. The thankful heart always gets more. There are great opportunities. See them. Grab them. Walk in them!
