Pollster Ben Epson has welcomed the re-unification pact reached between the NDC and breakaway faction, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP).
He has however added the pact does not necessarily guarantee a win for the governing party.
In an interview with Joy News Television on Tuesday’s formal pact, the newspaper editor said the merger will earn additional votes for NDC because “politics is about numbers and no numbers are insignificant”.
He cited the case where the then General Secretary of the DFP, Bede Zeideng, splited votes in the Lawra- Nandom Constituency, noting it will be difficult for the New Patriotic Party and other parties to secure the votes of the electorates in that constituency with the merger.
Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Peter Mac Manu said the merger does not mean anything to them.
He argued the NPP succeeded in capturing most of the top officials of the DFP such as Frances Essiam and so there is no clear cut indication that the NDC will sweep their votes.
He rather warned the NDC to take steps to address legal matters emerging from the merger to avoid sanctions by the Electoral Commission.
