The incessant power outages suffered by electricity consumers will soon end when the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) successfully completes its ongoing projects aimed at correcting deficiencies in the system, says Dr Smart Yeboah, Customer Service Director of the company. He said electricity supply will stabilize by the end of this year, a deadline the company hopes to complete the establishment of new sub-stations throughout the country to enhance power supply. Speaking on Peace FM Monday, Dr Yeboah, who admitted that the quality of electricity supply in the country was poor, appealed to consumers to bear with them since the company was addressing a lot of challenges which hampered their efficiency. He said the ECG had secured the needed funding from the World Bank and is putting the funds to judicious use. In Accra alone, he claimed, 15 primary sub-stations have been built in areas such as Cantonments, Trade Fair, Sowutuom and Nmaidjorn while the same was being replicated in other regions. Pylons are also being erected along major roads. Dr Yeboah said ECG was also changing and adding up transformers at various locations, along with the rewiring of old electric lines. He dismissed claims that contracting loans for these projects would deepen the country's debt stock, saying the loans are being used prudently to boost the productivity of the entity. He added that ECG has an asset base of $2 billion and that the company was not going to collapse but see tremendous progress in the near future. The ECG official was hopeful that once these projects are done, 'light offs' will be a thing of the past and consumers will enjoy standard voltages.
