Telecom subscribers in Ghana are set to receive better quality of service in the coming months as the licensed interconnect clearinghouse is set to launch its service in Ghana by May 2015.
Subscribers will experience improved quality of service with their interconnect calls to other networks as the infrastructure to be introduced by the ICH will increase and improve interconnect capacity available to operators resulting in significantly less congestion on the networks. The multi-layer redundancies to be built into the ICH network will result in a more reliable interconnect infrastructure for Ghana, ensuring that subscribers experience less network unavailability
The billing and settlement platform to be implemented will eliminate interconnect indebtedness ensuring that operators open up their networks for termination of calls more freely than is currently the case. This will lead to higher call terminating rate.
New classes of service will also be introduced to the industry as ISPs, VAS Operators, and Content Providers can now easily interface with the major carriers through the ICH. As the burden of ensuring seamless connectivity is no longer the responsibility of the operators and borne by the ICH operator, the operators can now devote their resources to customer service and provision of new class of services to subscribers.
