President John Mills has sworn in Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu as the first female Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
Until her nomination, the 55-year old lawyer was the chief legal advisor at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.
She worked at the Justice Ministry in Ghana since 1978 until her appointment at the Commonwealth office.
Mrs Iddrisu held numerous positions including head of industrial property law division and later became Ghana’s copyright administrator.
Administering the oath of office to her, president Mills impressed upon her to use her position to promote fairness and justice for all.
The president is also hopeful that the history maker will ensure that cases are dealt with expeditiously by the courts.
Before she was approved for the position by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, she had been asked by the minority in Parliament to apologize to the judiciary for using derogatory terms on them.
According to the minority she had on a political platform referred to the courts as ‘kangaroo courts’.
