A member of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti regional campaign team, Eugene Boakye Antwi has said the party is prepared to match the NDC’s violence during the biometric exercise boot for boot.
According to him, the NDC in its attempt to register some foreigners as part of the biometric registration exercise have resorted to violence but warned the NPP is prepared to defend its members from attacks by NDC thugs.
Speaking on Multi TV’s Minority Caucus program, Mr. Antwi who is also a member of the NPP’s National Council alleged the party’s Youth Organizer in the Subin constituency, Prince Boateng was on Tuesday beaten up by “a known NDC thug known as Sidi for resisting about 200 foreigners whom they had imported into the Subin constituency.”
According to him, on the same day, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Akrofrom Appiah Pinkra “was beaten to a pulp by NDC thugs and considerable damage done to his personal vehicle.”
Mr. Antwi accused the NDC of writing house addresses for foreigners to use as their house address for the biometric registration exercise.
“What the NDC does is they write up addresses for these non-Ghanaians and distribute them to the various constituencies to register” he said.
He cited the example of a Burkinabe resident whom he said attempted to register with a written address and when asked the directions to the said address, she pointed in the opposite direction.
He also indicated the NDC thugs over the weekend tried to vandalise the four polling stations in the Suame constituency but their attempts were foiled even though they destroyed all the tables the machines sat on”.
Mr. Antwi said the party is “extremely vigilant in the Ashanti region” and will resist any attempt by the NDC to use violence to disrupt the biometric registration process.
He also warned the party is not “going to allow foreigners to come into our home and beat us up. That will not happen. We’re going to match them boot for boot.”
“If the president wants to preside over peaceful elections, this is the time for him to act” he added.
