The Ghana Police Service in Birim North, in collaboration with the Blue Water Guards and forestry officials, has intercepted a group of illegal chainsaw operators in a forest within the district.
The joint operation, conducted at dawn, forms part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal logging and protect the area’s forest reserves. Authorities acted on information from community members who reported suspicious activity deep inside the forest.
Several suspects were arrested at the scene while engaged in unauthorized chainsaw operations. Equipment, including chainsaws and processed timber, was also confiscated during the exercise.
Hakeem Antwi Abdul, the District Chief Executive for Birim North, confirmed to Adom News that the suspects would face prosecution in accordance with the law. He emphasised that illegal logging not only damages the environment but also threatens water bodies and wildlife in the region.
Obrempong Kwame Akomeah, the Akwanserahene of Akyem Kotoku, commended the DCE and security personnel for the successful operation.
He reiterated the community’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to safeguard natural resources in Birim North and neighbouring areas.
