Head pastor of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim has been released from the custody of the Ghana Police Service after meeting the bail requirements.
The controversial preacher was arrested for the alleged publication of false news and forgery of documents contrary to sections 208 and 159 of the Criminal and other offences Act, (1960) (ACT 29) respectively.
Mr Obinim was scheduled to appear in court on June 1 while investigations continue and had been granted bail to the tune of GHC100,000 by an Accra Magistrate Court with three sureties and one person to be justified.
But the popular pastor was reportedly unable to meet the bail requirements.
His family had reportedly disputed this claim saying they were ready with the money but were being frustrated by the police.
His arrest comes against the backdrop of a tussle between the self-acclaimed Angel and the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.
Mr Agyapong said his mission is to expose fake pastors who have taken advantage of innocent Ghanaians and are living lavishly off their sweat.
The MP made these comments when he justified his recent attacks on the pastor in a yet-to-be-aired interview with JoyNews’ Mamavi Owusu-Aboagye.
He had also offered to assist embattled man of God to meet his bail conditions because the fate of Mr Obinim broke his heart.
“Obinim must now know he does not have any friends; he needs just one person to meet his bail condition and no one is ready to assist him but I’m ready to offer my house to bail him,” he said in an interview on Net 2 television.
