Despite Ghana’s shocking defeat at the quarter final stage of the MTN sponsored ongoing FIFA 2010 World Cup Tournament in South Africa which dashed Africa’s hope, the senior national team Black Stars has been rebranded “Africa Stars” in other words known as “Bafana BaGhana.”
This was unanimously endorsed at a colourful dinner organized Monday July 5 by South Africa’s largest financial institution called the ABSA Bank in honuor of Ghana’s retired President John Agyekum Kufuor who is in South Africa on a three day official visit as a Guest Speaker at the ongoing 14th edition of the Highway Africa Media Conference.
It was resolved that Ghana’s progress the at the World Cup Tournament through to the quarter final stage was a remarkable footprint Africa had made in the history of World soccer.
The retired Ghanaian leader was congratulated on his appointment as UNESCO’s Global Ambassador on the World Hunger Project and other similar projects under the auspices of the United Nations.
H.E retired President Kufuor thanked the organizers for the honuor done him and reiterated the need for Africa to come together to form a common market that will serve a unique interest in the scheme of the global economy.
He said Africa had caught the attention of the developed world particularly China because of its emerging reserves of natural wealth for that matter Africa should make its own progress by putting in place pragmatic measures that will make the continent face the challenges of the global economy.
South Africa hosting the maiden World Cup Tournament on the continent demonstrated that Africa was more capable of hosting other bigger events.
