Sports Minister Kofi Adams says the Black Stars will not go to the 2026 FIFA World Cup just to make up the numbers but to make a real impact on the global stage.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, the Buem MP said the team’s performance in the qualifiers shows a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
He insisted that Ghana’s goal this time is to be competitive and restore the pride the country enjoyed during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“I think this time around also, we will not just go to the World Cup to just add to the numbers,” he stated.
“We want to go there and let people feel our presence just the same way they did in South Africa in 2010. We want the world should feel our presence.”
His comments come after the Black Stars thrashed the Central African Republic 5-0 in Morocco, a result that puts them just one point away from qualification for the 2026 tournament.
The team’s four second-half goals in that match helped them maintain a three-point lead at the top of Group I, reinforcing hopes of a strong comeback on the world stage.
Ghana, which famously reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup, have since struggled to replicate that success.
But with qualification now within reach, the Sports Minister believes the current squad has what it takes to make the country proud once again.
Mr Adams’ assurance reflects growing optimism among fans and officials that the Black Stars’ next appearance at the World Cup will mark not just participation — but a statement of intent.
