A former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei has chided the ruling National Democratic Congress government for blaming their failures especially problems with the Single Spine implementation on the New Patriotic Party regime.Dr. Akoto Osei said he finds it difficult to understand why President Mills will link the NPP to the government’s inability to smoothly migrate public servants onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.President John Mills has said that the current challenges facing the Single Spine Salary Structure is because the erstwhile NPP government did not leave any money for the implementation of the system.The President said this during a tour of the Greater Accra Region to inspect ongoing projects.But the former Minister in the Kufuor administration is not happy about the president’s accusations. Dr. Akoto Osei who is also Member of Parliament for Tafo/Pankrono in the Ashanti region told Adom News the NDC government found it difficult to implement the SSSS smoothly due to some IMF loan conditions.Dr. Akoto Osei who will not blame doctors for embarking on the strike questioned, “after almost three years in government, what has the NDC government done so far?”He argued that the NPP made a three-month provision for the implementation of SSSS so that the succeeding government could continue from there. He added that the NDC should stop the propaganda and work seriously for Ghanaians to benefit.He said propaganda is different from practical government hence the NDC should wean itself of the numerous propaganda and lies, and rather go into serious business of governance.Disagreements over the Single Spine implementation have provoked the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to embark on a strike while the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has threatened to do same if their 13-month allowance is not paid by October 15.
