A major disaster struck Tema Community 1, Site 17, on Friday, November 14, after a fast-moving commercial fire tore through several structures.
According to a Facebook post shared by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the emergency call was received at 09:43 a.m, with a crew from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station arriving on the scene just seven minutes later at 09:50 a.m.
Firefighters were met with an intense blaze rapidly consuming multiple business structures.

Due to the severity of the incident, support was immediately requested from the Motorway Fire Station, whose team joined efforts to contain the inferno.
Through combined firefighting operations, the flames were brought under control by 10:20 a.m. and fully extinguished at 11:40a.m.

The fire destroyed two wooden structures and three metal containers, all of which were being used for various commercial activities.

However, firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to a nearby residential property, identified as House No. IR 111.
Crews also salvaged a significant number of items from the affected businesses, including 17 wooden sofas, two printers, a television set, a projector, three barrels of petrol and diesel, and five car batteries.

The GNFS confirmed that no injuries were reported, though the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
