Handkerchiefs bled with sweat; voices strained from shouts; muscles overstretched through the dances; and yet patrons at the Hi-life Festival 2011 on Friday at the Alisa Hotel Poolside wanted more. It was a blend of indigenous and contemporary hi-life music by the nation’s best and for close to nine hours patrons were just warming up - no signs of fatigue. Soon it was 1:30 am Saturday and fans wanted more. One star after another; one hit track after another, Kofi Nti, George Jarah, Oheneba Kissi, Felix Owusu, Kwabena Kwabena, Nana Ampadu and the ‘seeeeerious’ man Amakye Dede served a delectable collection of hi-life tracks which were too hot for butts to remain seated. And when owners of those butts with different shapes and sizes got onto the dance floor there was no turning back; the atmosphere was electrifyingly ‘seeeerious.’ The floor was choked. Couples danced and touched; singles did same and swapped contact numbers in addition. Never mind some of the dances were offbeat - the shouts and gestures made up. George Jarah was majestic. The Sophia track got patrons singing along but the ashikele fever swept through the crowd like the ‘kelewele’ aroma. Kwabena Kwabena had the fans ‘cursing and praising’ him with equal measure because his opening rendition got the couples very close, tight on the dance floor, in fact, just noses apart. His voice angelic, soul searching, the one couples needed for bonding and to spark the passion in their bedrooms, but hey they were on a dance floor at a public place. The singles loathed, loved and looked around the dance floor, dancing or pretending to and hoped for God’s sake they will get a dancing partner at least for the opening tracks. And when ‘Aso’ came, the slow rhythm changed, the singles could dance along with or without a partner.
