Mr. George Aggudey, a presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has said that the "blouse and skirt" voting by the party's supporters resulted in its poor performance in the 2004 elections. "Blouse and skirt voting", is a system where a voter votes for his preferred presidential and parliamentary candidates who belong to different parties. He said it was disheartening to note that some leading members of the party were in the forefront campaign for that pattern of voting, while others did not also see the need for the party to field a presidential candidate. Mr. George Aggudey, who was the presidential candidate of the CPP in 2004, said this when he interacted with the Regional and constituency executives of the party in Tamale on the way forward for the party towards the 2008 elections. He also presented an amount of GH¢1000 (¢10 million) for the purchase of bicycles for the 26 constituencies of the party in the region. He earlier on made a similar donation to the constituencies in the Upper West Region. He said some of the parliamentary candidates of the party who canvassed for the "blouse and skirt voting" are the same people now contesting for the presidential flagbearership, after they have realised that the CPP was a strong and viable party. Mr. Aggudey said it was also regrettable to note that majority of the party's members did not pay their party dues and wondered how a party could run effectively without money. Mr. Albert Atutiga, Northern Regional Chairman of the party appealed to the aspiring presidential candidates in the party to be decent in their campaigns and urged them to unite at both the Regional and constituency levels.
