Bob James, two-time Grammy Award winner and smooth jazz keyboardist, has been announced as the headline act for 2016 edition of the Stanbic Jazz Festival.
This year’s event is scheduled for the Accra International Conference Centre from June 24-26, 2016.
Also on the bill are saxophonist Tom Braxton and a host of local acts notably Aka Blay, Ben Ayisah, Kyekyeku and Constant Boty.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s event, Mawuko Afadzinu, Head Marketing and Communications Stanbic Bank, said: “Over the past three years we have been ensuring that the Stanbic Jazz Festival gains recognition as a stop on the global jazz calendar by presenting top-flight musicians to the people of Ghana.”
He added that, “This year we are presenting Bob James to cement the plan of making this a must-attend event on the jazz circuit. Stanbic Bank’s association with such world class talent is to buttress the point that we aim to deliver world class service.”
“We want to contribute in positive ways to the local economy, by developing and growing the music industry; thereby providing employment, training and skills development in all the related fields of technical production including sound engineering and lighting, marketing and PR, event management and hospitality,” Mr Afadzinu noted.
As part of Stanbic’s support for worthy causes, this year’s event will be in aid of the Leukaemia Foundation of Ghana.
Renowned for the complexity of his arrangements and instrumentals, the career of Bob James is long, varied and continues to evolve at every turn.
From his days in Marshall, Missouri, the music of Bob James has captivated audiences throughout the world, now is the turn of Ghana to hear the jazz great live.
