The central bank says it is not printing new currency denominations as the photos, circulating mostly on Whatsapp and Facebook social media platforms, seem to be suggesting.

"We are not printing any new currencies", Head of the Public Affairs Office of the Governors Department of Bank of Ghana Esi Hammond told Joy Business.

She said the public must disregard the posts since there are no plans to issue new notes.

According to her, the Bank of Ghana follows strict procedures in releasing photos and security features of new currency denominations, which does not include taking to social media as it is in the current situation.
