Bolt, the leading ride-hailing platform in Ghana, has launched its services in the city of Tamale.

This is the second expansion since the year began as the company continues its steady expansion drive to other regions within the country.

This expansion is part of the ride-hailing company’s long-term plans to provide safe, affordable, and efficient mobility to Ghanaians across the country.

Additionally, this recent move to Tamale exhibits the organisation’s commitment to providing earning avenues that give the Ghanaian a chance at economic and financial independence.

Speaking about the launch, Country Manager, Bolt Ghana, David Kotei Nikoi said “It is no coincidence that we are introducing our services in Tamale, the eighth city on our growing list of areas we operate in, in our Independence month.”

“We appreciate how far we have come as a nation since Ghana gained its independence and recognise that we are still on the journey towards the greatness the visionaries who led us to our independence envisaged. It is on the back of this that at Bolt, we are keen to contribute towards the economic independence and freedom of many citizens,” Mr Nikoi added.

Tamale is the capital city of the Northern Region of Ghana and serves as home to some of Ghana’s famous tourist sites and safaris, including the large Central Mosque and Mole National Park.

Bolt’s expansion to the city now gives passengers a chance to conveniently move around the city to some of the country’s popular destinations.

Bolt’s service is easy to use; passengers simply download the Bolt app from the Android or iOS App stores and set up a user profile. Once they are ready to ride, users open the app and set their location and intended destination. The app then indicates an estimated cost for the trip, and once a passenger requests a ride, the app alerts drivers nearby, who then proceed to accept the ride.

For passenger safety and security, once a driver has accepted the ride, passengers will be able to see their driver’s name, photo, car make and model and registration number and track the driver’s movement in real-time.

In addition, to celebrate the ride-hailing service to Tamale, Bolt is giving riders the chance to win a meal for two at KFC when they share a selfie of themselves in the #BoltTamale ride, using the hashtag #BoltTamale.

“Our expansion within the major cities is strategic. We believe that once earning opportunities are created within major towns, there is a trickle-down effect to other parts, hence our strategic expansion within the major cities of the regions.

"Additionally, extending our footprint to the Northern Region is a testament to our bid to give all Ghanaian riders the freedom to do more and opt for efficient transportation services and drivers, a means to financial and economic independence,” Mr Nikoi said.

Bolt mobility services are already available in seven cities: Accra, Cape Coast, Kumasi, Takoradi, Sunyani, Koforidua and Ho.
