The Bongo District in the Upper East Region had chalked monumental achievements in the past seven years, especially in the area of infrastructure.
The Private Sector Development programme has created an enabling environment for the provision of schools, electricity, feeder roads and credit facilities in the area.
Mr Francis Akurugu Asampana, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo these at the weekend during this year’s People Assembly of the District to explain the government programmes to the people.
The Assembly was also to offer the people the platform to ask for the stewardship of the leadership in government.
He said under the GETfund, furniture worth GH¢10,767 was voted to schools in the area in 2007.
Mr Asampana said GH¢3,735 was spent in support of 129 needy but brilliant students in Senior High Schools whilst GH¢5,329 went to 127 tertiary students in 2007.
The District, he said, saw an increase in the number subscribers for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) from 24,666 in December 2006 to 43,497 in December 2007.
Mr Asampana said of the 1,125 people registered under the National Youth Employment Programme, 445 were employed.
The DCE said the District spent GH¢5,045 on 76 disabled students in 2007.
Mr Alhassan Samari, Upper East Regional Minister explained that the Government would incorporate the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) School Feeding Programme into the Ghana School Feeding programme.
Reacting to the collapse of dams in the region, the Minister said, there were about 44 dams that were affected by flood and assured the people that measures were being put in place to reconstruct them.
