The Vice presidential ambitions of Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique appear to have been punctured by allegations of profligacy against him.
The Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing is reported to have sanctioned the purchase of expensive vehicle by the ministry for his use despite inheriting a Nissan Patrol Automatic V6 which is less than two years.
The Toyota Landcruiser, VXV8, Double Fuel Tank, 2008 Model, with registration number GE 9991 Z, costs $89,000.00.
With this move, the NPP vice presidential aspirant is believed to be debasing president Kufuor’s plea to Ghanaians “to bite the bullet to put the economy on sound footing."
When Mr. Hackman Owusu Agyeman took over in 2005, as the head of that Ministry, a Nissan Patrol, V6, with registration number GT6438X was purchased for his office.
After the car had been used for barely two years, Alhaji Boniface, on the assuming of office asked for its replacement with a more luxurious one.
According to the Chronicle newspaper Alhaji Boniface’s son who is not a government official, is currently using the Nissan Patrol he rejected.
The Chief Director at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works & Housing, Mr. Amoah Gyarteng, said the purchase of the luxurious car for Boniface was necessitated by what the Minister's predecessor, Mr. Owusu Agyeman wrote in his handing over note.
According to the Chief Director, Mr. Owusu Agyeman indicated that the car was not functioning properly and that a new one should be purchased.
He however failed to answer the question as to why a less than two years old new Nissan Patrol with regular servicing should be replaced.
Asked in whose possession the Nissan Patrol was, Mr. Gyarteng responded furiously, "go and ask the Minister" and that he was not the right person to respond to the question.
Contrary to Mr Gyarteng’s claims, Mr. denied making a recommendation for the purchase of such an expensive vehicle.
He asked "why didn't you access the said report and read it for yourself when the Director told you"?
