A 14-year-old boy in Buoho, a community in the Affigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region, burnt to death last Tuesday when a wooden kiosk in which he was sleeping caught fire. Kwabena Amponsah, the victim, was burnt beyond, recognition in the fire which lasted barely an hour. Between Sam and 3pm when DAILY GUIDE visited the scene, the remains of the deceased were still lying in the ashes, even though a police patrol team had earlier visited the scene. Dozens of residents were shocked when the news of the untimely death of the minor broke. The people wondered what might have caused the fire. Kwabena Amponsah, who was said to be an epileptic patient, was reportedly sleeping in the kiosk alone, without his father who he usually slept with, when the incident occurred. Godfred Fenteng, grandfather of the deceased who spoke to the paper, said the fire which started at about 4:00 am was first detected by a driver who raised the alarm but by the time it was extinguished, his grandson had' burnt to ashes. A couple of anxious Buoho residents did not rule out arson as the driver who alerted the occupants to escape death had told them he saw an unidentified man very close to the kiosk who took to his heels after he (driver) raised the alarm. Meanwhile, "the paper could not speak to Amponsah's father as he was said to be at the police station at the time of filing this story. Several personal effects and assorted items including groceries in the kiosk were also destroyed by the fire. Source: Daily Guide
