The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has described the decision of the Government of Ghana to boycott Multimedia and its affiliates as ‘suicidal’. He says in an election year, boycotting a media house is the last thing to resort to when there are challenges, adding that the Multimedia platform is too big to be ignored or taken for granted. "In any case I don’t understand how a few people can take a decision without the party and fault me, Kofi Adams, for appearing on Newsfile, a Multimedia programme," he said. Mr. Adams who was speaking on Adom FM’s midday news explained that even if the government had concerns with the network, dialogue with officials of the Multimedia Group would have been the best option instead of boycotting what he described as a big media platform with a wide listenership who needs to understand government policies and projects. He said he would be surprised that the elected officers who are mandated to manage the party would be ignored in such a critical decision like that. He questioned why the national chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei was not aware of the decision hence his appearance on the PM Express programme Multi TV, a wing of the Multimedia Group. "I think as a party, we should not even dare boycott Multimedia; it’s dangerous because we would lose," he insisted. He suggested that the government must send a delegation to meet with the managers of Multimedia and resolve the decision instead of the antagonistic position it has taken. Kofi Adams appealed to the government to reverse its decision immediately. The Government has through the deputy Minister of Information, James Agyenim Boateng said it will no longer patronise the platforms of the group, and that while the government does not intend to invite media houses belonging to the group to its programmes, it will walk away any journalist of the MGL who attends government programmes.
