Bui Power Authority (BPA) managers of the Bui Hydroelectric Project are optimistic the country's challenges with irregular power supply could soon be over with completion of the electricity generating plant.
The plant, the Bui Generating Station, is set to add 400 mega watts of power to the national grid this Thursday, December 19, 2013 when final works on it would be completed.
This means that onThursday, BPA would finish works on the last of three 133MW generating units of the Bui Generating Station to boost the existing two units.
" The substantial completion of the Project now, provides Ghana with additional 400MW (20% increment) of installed capacity, with average annual generation of 1000GWh", BPA stated on its website.
Engineers are currently carrying out the necessary test runs to ensure a smooth migration onto the national grid within the next three days.
Anthony Boye Osafo-Kissi, Resident Engineer at the Bui Generating Station said "in addition to power generation, [BPA] would also enhance the transmission network in three regions in the north."
The Bui dam would also improve water supply for irrigation and domestic use in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama will officially inaugurate the Bui Generating Station on Thursday.
