Ready for another rendezvous with the ton?
“Bridgerton” is returning to Netflix in 2024, with the third season of the period drama waltzing onto streaming in two parts. The first four episodes will premiere on May 16, and the next four will be available to stream on June 13.
Along with the announcement, Netflix released a video stitching together previously seen footage with TikToks and social media posts from fans eager to revisit the upper crust of Regency-era London.
The Shondaland series will jump right into Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) romance in Season 3, diverting from the Julia Quinn books it’s based on.
Meanwhile, Penelope will have to deal with her rift with Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), who, according to Netflix’s description, has found a new friend in an unlikely place. With a growing presence in the ton, Penelope is challenged with keeping her Lady Whistledown alter ego under wraps.
Jess Brownell, who took over showrunning duties after Chris Van Dusen exited, told Variety in May, “I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people.”
She continued, “I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.”
“Bridgerton,” which shoots in London, is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica and Van Dusen. The sprawling cast also includes Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton), Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Ruth Gemmell (Violet Bridgerton), Lorraine Ashbourne (Mrs. Varley), Hannah Dodd (Francesca Bridgerton), Simone Ashley (Kate Sharma), Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton), Harriet Cains (Philipa Featherington), Bessie Carter (Prudence Featherington), Jessica Madsen (Cressida Cowper), Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton), Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich), Will Tilston (Gregory Bridgerton), Polly Walker (Portia Featherington) and Julie Andrews (Lady Whistledown).
