Chief Executive of mPedigree Bright Simons has been named in a New York based digital news outlet -Quartz as one of 30 African Innovators in 2015.
The 30 which includes R&B star Akon and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, were chosen for their "ground breaking works, thought-leading initiatives, creative approaches and for being African innovators."
Simons, 33, a tech entrepreneur as he was described by Quartz, is reputed for his innovation to check the rampant fake drugs in Ghana and across the world.
The innovation allows customers to verify the authenticity of drugs with a simple text message of a 12-digit code on packaged drugs.
mPedigree now has hundreds of millions of drug packaging in Ghana, Kenya and India with more pilots in other countries.
The mPedigree technology was innovated in 2005 for farmers to track their produce but the technology was quickly shifted to fight the menace of counterfeit drugs.
Simons and mPedigree are now turning their sights to other industries with counterfeit, marketing and logistics challenges including seeds cosmetics and other business.
