The African Centre for Enerygy Policy has declared, a miracle is needed to rescue the Bui Dam from shutting down -the consequence being the worsening of already erratic power supply.

"Bui Dam needs a miracle", the Head of Programmes at ACEP, Benjamin Boakye told Joy News with an air of finality.

Authorities at the Bui Power Authority have warned, a two meter drop in water levels at Ghana's third hydro-electric dam will have dire consequences to the already erratic power situation.

The 400 megawatt facility is currently adding 90 megawatts to the national grid at peak time. Since November 2013, they have been supplying 3.66 million kWh/day - about 2.5 times the target rate.

But dwindling water levels means the authourity can only do about 1.44 million kWh/day. The Authorities said they were forced to push the limits of its capabilities to "support system demand".

"We have reduced the generation. We only pray for rain", the Assistant External and Communications Relations Officer with the Bui Power Authority, Mawuli Fui Kwadwovia said resignedly.

The rains have already set in with reported flooding in some parts of Accra. The Ghana Metrological Agency has also warned the rains, expected to last through to August will be severe.

ACEP's call for rains, add up to another  made by the Minister of Energy Emmanuel Armah Buah who has said Ghana needs 200 megawatts worth of rains if the country is not to slip into greater darkness.

Pointing out this divine option Mr. Buah rallied Ghanaians saying "what we have to do is to pray that this year the rains will come enough for Bui [dam] to give us at least 200 megawatts".

Apparently, Bui Dam's meagre supply of 90 megawatts is in danger and without rains, the Dam commissioned in November 2013 will shut down six months to its second anniversary.
