Bui Power Authority (BPA) has denied engaging in any spilling activity at the dam this year.
BPA has consequently debunked assertions that it was responsible for the recent flooding of some farming communities at Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
A Myjoyonline story about a week ago, which followed an interview with the Central Gonja District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Mohammed Mustapha, attributed the flooding that has displaced over 1,500 inhabitants to activities at Bui Dam.
However, a statement issued by the Bui Power Authority has emphatically denied involvement in any spillage activity.
“It is important to note that whenever there is a need to engage in a spillage, comprehensive measures are taken to provide adequate notice and education to all communities along the downstream river channels and all stakeholders. These measures are implemented to ensure the safety of lives and property before, during and after a spillage.”
Below is the full statement issued by BPA.
