Tragedy struck Tampem, near Bawdie in the Amenfi East District in the Western Region last Monday, when a 40-year-old expatriate was crushed to death by a bulldozer.
The expatriate, Don Aighan, an Australian and employee of African Mining Services (AMS), was said to be on a training session when the incident occurred.
The training session, according to sources, was part of the company’s programme to prepare local people to acquire the needed skills in their bid to increase local content in their operations.
The driver in charge of the bulldozer, Joseph Ampomah, is helping the police in their investigation.
Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Prestea Huni-Valley District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Ben Wonkyi, said at about 9:00.a.m. on Monday the expatriate was training Ampomah to operate the bulldozer.
He said the Australian, who sat near the trainee on the machine, suddenly fell from the machine while the trainee was reversing.
Mr Wonkyi said before the attention of Ampomah was drawn to the plight of the man, he had already run over him killing him instantly.
Asked if the suspect was not conversant with operating the machine, DSP Wonkyi said according to them it was a normal training session that enabled the drivers and other technical staff members to be trained.
The body of the deceased has been flown to Accra for preservation.
