The Bunkprugu Yunyoo District Assembly has confirmed the president’s nominee for the position of DCE for the area.
Philip Laari polled 37 out of 37 votes cast representing 100 percent in the 40 member assembly. Three members were absent.
The election was conducted by the electoral commission. Mr. Laari, the immediate past Deputy Director of the Ghana Prisons Service in the Northern Region received eloquent support from the Prison Service staff that traveled from Tamale to Bunkprugu to witness the confirmation ceremony. Also at the ceremony were his friends and party functionaries.
The new DCE thanked the assembly members for reposing confidence in him and pledged to work with an open door policy to ensure the development of the area.
Even though the area has been plagued by land and chieftaincy disputes Mr. Laari says peace is gradually returning and appealed to the people of the district to jealously guard the relative peace.
Mr. Laari said his administration will focus on agriculture, education, infrastructural development and jobs for especially the women and youth of the area, adding he will make consultation a priority in his administration.
The Northern Regional Minister, Moses Mabingba thanked the assembly for confirming Mr. Laari and urged them to promote peace since that is the only way to ensure development in the district.
Confirmation for the president’s nominee for Karaga district comes off tomorrow (on Tuesday) while Yendi’s date is yet to be confirmed.
President J.E.A. Mills last month appointed three persons to replace three DCEs who were sacked earlier in the year at Karaga, Yendi and the Bunkprugu Yunyoo districts.
