The Young Social Democrats (TYDE), a youth group loyal to governing National Democratic Congress has described as mischievous, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) call for the removal of Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Djan as Chairman of the Electoral Commission.
According to the TYDE, the position represents "fraudulent logic, double standards and bad faith of the NPP, it is simply mischievous and puerile".
The NPP and pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) are demanding the removal of the EC Boss as a condition for getting involved in discussions on electoral reforms.
They claim the incompetence of Dr Afari-Djan nearly brought the nation to her knees adding that his exit will form an essential part of the reforms that the EC is calling for.
But TYDE in a release said: "Any party which makes the removal of the Chairman of the EC, whose work has been clearly endorsed by the highest Court of the land, a condition for pursuing electoral reforms cannot be a democratic party".
"Rather than heap invectives on the Chairman of the Electoral Commission for their electoral misfortunes, AFAG and the NPP, if they have any modicum of conscience, should be blaming and removing the leadership of their party for gross incompetence and dereliction of duty," the release said.
The Young Social Democrats (TYDE) therefore called on well-meaning Ghanaians and civil society groups to heed the call for reforms and make substantial contributions to enhance the administration of elections in the country.
