Calm has returned to the Sofoline Interchange in Kumasi after a nasty brawl between angry workers and their Chinese employers.
The workers are protesting poor remuneration and have laid down their tools.
The peaceful strike which started on Monday turned violent today when some of the workers allegedly prevented their Chinese employers from entering the construction site.
This resulted in a feisty brawl between some workers and their Chinese counterparts.
Ashanti Region Police PRO DSP Mohammed Tanko confirmed the incident in an interview with Joy News.
He said four of the Chinese contractors sustained minor injuries with two losing a mobile phone a hand bag.
DSP Tanko said no arrest has yet been made but was quick to add that calm has been restored.
He advised the workers to use the appropriate channels and procedures to address their grievances.
Meanwhile, the workers have given their employers a one week ultimatum to address their grievances.
Some of them told Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Odonkor that the 138.00 cedis monthly salary they receive is woefully inadequate but several appeals to employers to increase their salaries have been futile.
