A three-member delegation from the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Canada on Monday called on her Ladyship, Mrs. Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana at her office in Accra.The delegation, which is made up of two eminent Canadian judges and an academic, would be in the country for the next ten days as part of an exchange programme between the Judiciary of Ghana and the NJI.During the visit, the group would conduct a series of training sessions and share experiences with selected Judges and Magistrates.The training of trainers' programme is aimed at developing a faculty among Ghanaian judges to assist in the development of a standard curriculum for the Judicial Training Institute of Ghana.Mrs. Justice Wood commended the Canadian government for its continued support to the Ghanaian judiciary.She was very appreciative of the judicial education in Customary and Common laws provided to some Ghanaian judges who were in Canada for training some time ago.She called for an effective collaboration between the Judicial Service of Ghana and the Canadian counterparts to strengthen and build the capacity of judges and magistrates to improve the administration of justice.Mr. Justice Brian W. Lennox, Executive Director of NJI and former Chief Justice of Ontario commended the Chief Justice and her predecessor for their perseverance and dedication to quality and fairness in the Ghanaian Justice system."Your tireless effort have paved an equal ground for all Ghanaians to participate in a country dedicated to improving services to its people and especially women and children" he said.Mr Justice Lennox was also happy that the Judicial Service of Ghana had embarked on an extensive reform to improve and up-grade the skills and knowledge of staff through judicial education and training programmes.Other members of the delegations are Prof. Bredel Dawson Academic Director of NJI and Justice Caroline Adele Kent, Court Queen's Bench, Alberta, Calgary.Source: GNA
