A circuit court at Dormaa Ahenkro in Brong Ahafo presided by Mr Justice V. C. Senu, has slapped a 50-penalty unit (GHC 600) fine on Martin Takyi for driving carelessly and causing harm to a woman.Takyi who pleaded guilty to both counts and was convicted on his own plea will serve 23 months in jail if he defaults in paying the fine.Prosecuting, Chief Inspector M. K. Larweh of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit), told the court that on May 31, 2008, the convict drove a TICO taxi cab with registration number BA 466 W and knocked down and injured Naomi Antwiwaa who was walking along the road.The prosecutor said the victim was rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital for treatment after which the incident was reported to the MTTU.Pronouncing judgment the judge explained that the 50-penalty units fine was in line with prescriptions under the Road Traffic Amendment Act, (Act 761) of 2008.Source: GNA
