The trial judge of controversial payment of gargantuan judgement debt to businessman Alfred Woyome has schedule tomorrow for commencement of trial. Justice John Agete-Hasam’s ruling followed state prosecutors’ statement that the Attorney General’s office is ready but cannot start today because Mr. Woyome refused to show up for his charge statement to be taken last week Friday. Joy News’ Sammy Darko, who was in court reported that state prosecutors at the last hearing pleaded for more time to study the do cut on payment of controversial 51 million cedis judgment debt to Alfred Agbesi Woyome. However in court today prosecutors led by Cynthia Lamptey told the court the state could not proceed because Mr. Woyome refused to report to the police for his charge statement to be taken. At first lawyers for Mr. Woyome denied the claims. But further interrogation by the judge revealed Mr. Woyome indeed did not show up because he was called late. The police also say they attempted to get him over the weekend but Mr. Woyome was unwilling to respond because his lawyers were out of touch. Following from that encounter the judge ordered Mr. Woyome and the three others to report this morning at the police headquarters for the statement to be taken before full trial tomorrow 5 June. Mr. Woyome appeared unhappy about the accusation that he refused to follow the judge’s instructions to report to the police twice in a week. He kept shaking his head and moved towards his lawyers to protest. Government has accused Woyome and three others- a state attorney Nerquaye Tetteh and wife as well as a public officer at the Finance Ministry, Paul Asimenu of fraud and causing financial loss to the state. The suspects have pleaded not guilty to the charge. Even though the state appears ready for trial, some defence lawyers are not optimistic and want their clients discharge and the case revisited when the state is ready.
