JoyNews’ Arrive Alive campaign has been endorsed by the Catholic Church in Tamale, with a call on the local media in the Northern Region to emulate the road safety campaign.
Joy News’ #ArriveAlive campaign is aimed at tackling the high rate of road accidents in the country.
The Cathedral Administrator of the Arch-Diocese of Tamale, Very Reverend Father Carulous Magnus Gambogi, told Joy News that believes the Arrive Alive campaign will instil the kind of discipline needed to save lives on Ghana's roads.
“It is a very laudable idea; I think that discipline on our roads can curtail accidents,” he said.
According to him, the high rate of road carnage in the country is the result of a lack of discipline exhibited by road users.
He compared the seemingly high discipline of road users in European countries to Ghana’s, touting the former as worthy of emulation.
“If you look at Europe, they have the best of roads, and also when they’re moving, the speed that they go is terrific. But because they’re disciplined, they don’t overtake by heart and so you see that there, you do not have so many accidents like we are having here in our country because of their discipline,” he said.
He, therefore, encouraged Joy News to continue with the good works and entreated local media platforms in the Northern Region to embark on similar campaigns.
“So what you’re embarking on is a very laudable idea and I think that even the local media in Tamale here should also undertake something like that. I’m’ always very sad when I listen to radio and all that they talk about is politics,” he said.
