The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has challenged the people of the Central region to initiate concrete measures to promote education towards the development of the area.He noted that standards of education have fallen in the region even though it had good schools and used to be the citadel of education in the country.The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, was speaking on his behalf at the Mfantseman Youth Achievers Award Ceremony, at Mankessim. It was organised by the FED KASTLE Promotions, a local non-governmental organisation.Alhaji Mahama: “The extend to which students fail in both the Junior Senior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School examinations should give an alarm to the people that they should sit up."He said such students could become school dropouts who might engage in social vices such as hooliganism, armed robbery, pick pocketing and drug abuse and eventually become a burden to their parents and society.Alhaji Mahama noted that the region was endowed with enormous human and natural resources and advised the people to harness those potentials to enable them to improve their standards of living adding "posterity will not forgive you if you fail in this duty."He commended FED KASTLE Promotions, for organising the event and urged other NGOs in the country to replicate the programme in the districts to reward hard working citizens since "a nation that does not honour its people, is not worth dying for."Alhaji Mahama praised the people of Anomabo in the Mfantseman District of the region for organising an event recently to honour citizens who have contributed to the development of the area and the nation as a whole.Mrs Harriet Wereko-Brobby, Corporate Affairs Manager of the West Africa Gas Pipe-line Company, appealed to parents to invest in the education of the children to enable them to acquire the requisite skills and knowledge for national development.The Mfantseman District Chief Executive, Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, appealed to the youth to apply their talents to the benefit of the communities in which they lived instead of engaging in lawlessness that could jeopardize their future.Mr Francis Ejaaku Donkoh, the Executive Director of FED KASTLE Promotions, said the National Youth Award Ceremony, held in Accra last year in which he was honoured, encouraged him to organise a similar one for the youth in the district.20 industrious citizens were rewarded for meaningfully contributing to the development of the area.Source: GNA
