Officials of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), at the Aflao border, have intercepted a Nigerian-registered Terano Jeep concealed with a quantity of arms and ammunitions, being allegedly smuggled from Ghana to Nigerian.Oforkansi Martins, who was the only occupant of the vehicle with registration number BU339ENU and claimed ownership of the arms and ammunitions, has been handed over to the Aflao Police for investigations.Also in custody of the Police were a quantity of pump action and double-barrel guns and five cartons of ammunitions.Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Ahmed Issah Yakubu in charge of Aflao Police, confirmed the story to the GNA and said Martins, who was in charge of the vehicle coming from Accra en-route Nigeria, pulled up at the Aflao border at about 1600 hours on Tuesday.He said during routine checks, the CEPS personnel detected an unusual arrangement in the boot of the vehicle and upon closer examination found the arms and ammunitions.Martins told the GNA that he acquired the arms and ammunitions from a Ghanaian in Accra before he was placed in police cells.A large crowd besieged the police station to catch a glimpse of Martins.Source: GNA
