The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) has introduced a computerized system to replace the manual procedure for the temporary admission of motor vehicles for ECOWAS citizens.
A statement signed by Mr Kwamena Ewusi-Brown, Chief Collector/Public Relations for CEPS, said the new procedure would be introduced at Aflao, Elubo and Paga borders from Wednesday, January 2, 2008, while the manual system would remain in operation at other stations until further notice.
The new system has been integrated in the GCNet/GCMS. The present form C59A (revised) for the application for permission to import vehicle for temporary use would be replaced by a computer-generated form C59A, it said.
According to the statement, under the new procedure, applicants would submit their vehicle documents to CEPS processing officer, who would input the vehicle particulars and the traveller's details into the system and issue a payment slip to applicants.
It said the applicant would also be required to present the payment slip to the GCNet partner bank that would further confirm their payment in GCMS.
The applicant would then collect a completed computer generated C59A print- out to end the process.
CEPS said all travellers should note and be guided accordingly.
